Hi Community! I’m David, Starter Marketing Manager and part of the Community Hub team. It’s a pleasure to be here with you and have a chance to create this space for our global user community to connect, collaborate and share best practice and knowledge with each other. Feel free to introduce yourself here in the thread – you could share where you work, live, your role, and even how you are using Preservica at your organization. (Share your bigger Preservica story here). Why not add other interesting information about yourself or even a fun picture with your pet. This is the best way for all of us to get to know one another! I haven’t got any pets but my daughters keep me busy, so that’s the picture I’m sharing (hat strategically placed by my oldest ) I look forward to connecting with you all on the Community Hub! Hi all,I will be attending iPres in September and wondered (if we can fit it in during the programme!) if any other Preservica users would be interested in having an informal catch up whilst there? Always great to meet and talk with other product users! ThanksLaura
Hi everybody, I’m looking forward to my first iPres as a Preservica employee! Many of us from the Innovation, Product, and Marketing teams will be in attendance and we’ll be having an extremely busy iPres – including discussing File Format Registries on the morning of Monday 12 September, delivering five(!) lightning talks on Tuesday 4-5:30pm, and participating in the ‘Bake-Off’ sessions throughout Wednesday to demonstrate features such as Auto-Preservation.I’m excited to meet Preservica users – many of you I know already, but many more I’m sure I don’t, so please feel free to say hi! I’m especially keen to hear about how I can help with any challenges relating to file formats, from identification, through migration, to rendering and anything else in-between.The full programme can be found here: ipres2022 (eventsair.com), and more detail about Preservica’s involvement can be found here: iPres 2022 Glasgow, Mon, 12 Sep. 2022 at 09:00, Europe/Dublin | Community (preservica.com).I hope to
Name: Laura Cook I've been with Preservica for… 3 months The thing I like most about my job is… As a Product Owner, you spend a great deal of time on discovery and planning, so seeing all of these details come to life is really satisfying. If I could meet any historical figure it would be… Something I’d enjoy would be an afternoon cut outs workshop with Matisse. I’d bring my daughter and her crayons along, and see if he wanted to swap collages at the end. When I'm not working, I like to... Spend time with my daughter. She’s one and a half, so this mostly involves slides, painting, hobby horses, and cake. Luckily, we have a lot in common :) Something that would surprise people about me… I can make relatively good clothes.
Name: Brad Houston Organization: Milwaukee Municipal Research Center My role involves managing records and records management for the City of Milwaukee, including large numbers of microfilm/digital records, and preparing physical records for transfer to the City Archives at Milwaukee Public Library. I also manage the City Mailroom (a holdover from the City Records Center’s time as Milwaukee Printing and Records). My proudest digital preservation achievements include starting a digital preservation program from the ground up at my former place of work, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Library, Archives Department. I did a lot of self-teaching, experimentation with various tools and approaches and created what I described in many professional presentations as “the duct tape/baling wire approach to digital preservation”. In the end I had a reasonably robust preservation process, if not an integrated system, and I laid the ground for my successor to improve on my work. My top tips for oth
Name: Amy Lundell Organization: Maryville College My role involves all aspects of archival work from every stage of archival processing (physical and digital) to providing access to our collections. I work closely with students, faculty, and staff of Maryville College as well as alumni, local community organizations, external academic researchers, family historians, and other members of the general public. I also oversee a small, dedicated group of alumni who volunteer weekly in the Archives. My proudest digital preservation achievements include simply starting! Being a part-time lone arranger with a 200+ year backlog of physical material, simply having the opportunity and means to get started no matter how small is a big step. My first collection was just 6 files: three scanned early 19th century letters written by our first college president and the three corresponding transcriptions. My top tips for other Preservica Starter users are: (1) Make a test folder to play around with the s
