Batch template error

For the past several days I have been getting an error when I try to download .csv templates for batch upload. I have the Dublin Core template from past ingests, but I don’t have the MODS one and was hoping to start using it. When I click Add > Download CSV Templates > Download, I get the “Download CSV templates” window, but there is an eternal purple “Loading” wheel, and a separate red error pops up on the lower right-hand side of my screen that says, “System error while generating the CSV list, please try again later.”

Guidance for using Bulk CSV Upload in NewGen

This article is applicable to the NewGen Interface only and all Preservica editions. In the NewGen interface under the Add menu (below) there is an option to upload a folder that contains content files and a single CSV file that contains metadata to be applied to that content. The use of this functionality is covered in this training video and here are some things to be aware of when using: The naming convention of the CSV file must match what is expected by the system: DC - Dublin_Core-template.csv MODS - MODS-template.csv When saving the CSV in your spreadsheet prior to uploading ensure it is saved in CSV UTF-8 formatThe folder/filename column in the CSV must contain the exact name, including extension, of the file it is associated withBulk CSV Upload will not work when attempting to upload to the Home folder, the user interface will ask you to continue the ingest as normal but clicking this will not complete the ingest. Instead just perform the upload into any sub-folder and then

bulk upload of metadata for existing files

We have already ingested thousands of image files and now we have metadata to go along with them. Is there a way to upload a metadata .csv file for existing files? I see how to upload a new folder of files with metadata, but the files are already in Preservica. Is this possible? (Without re-ingesting all of the files already present?)

Maximum size to view images in portal?

Is there a file size limit to what can be viewed on Preservica Starter, both behind the scenes and on the public portal? I’m uploading large tiffs and getting an “unable to open object” message when I click to view either the preservation copies in Explorer or the access copies in the portal, even though the access copies are of course much smaller. Is it Preservica struggling with the large files for some reason (I thought it wasn’t supposed to), or is it more likely a browser or bandwidth issue? Thank you for any help!

I can't view my .warc file

If you have captured a web page using the conifer application and it won't display in Starter and gives a message of ‘format doesn’t have an associated renderer’ Find the original file you downloaded from Conifer and change the file extension to .zip in Windows Explorer or MacOS. Extract the zip file to a local folder. Change the extension of the unzipped file back to .warc Upload into Starter again. The native output of Conifer is not quite compatible with Starter and the method above should fix that.

Illegal Characters for OPEX Incremental Ingest

When using OPEX Incremental Ingest please be aware of the following - Folders and their subsequent OPEX files with non-ASCII characters or question marks in their names can be ingested using OPEX Incremental Ingest, however for files and their subsequent OPEX files with non-ASCII characters or question marks in their names, these do not get ingested using OPEX Incremental Ingest. We would advise customers to avoid using these characters for filenames. The OPEX Incremental Ingest continues to ingest after these erroneous files have been encountered, and allows other folders and files in the ingest to continue, so does not break the ingest Non-ASCII characters are any characters that fall outside of the standard 7-bit ASCII character set and beyond the basic English alphabet. This includes accented letters, and characters from languages like Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Farsi and Arabic.Examples of non-ASCII characters can be found below:Accented letters like é, à, ö, ñ Characters

Change default display options in explorer?

I’m adding metadata for a bunch of files in Preservica Starter. After I navigate to the folder with the files in Explorer, I set it to sort A to Z and show 50 assets per page. However, it keeps resetting to the defaults and I have to sort it again every time the page reloads. Is there a way to tell it to sort A to Z with 50 assets per page by default?Thanks!

Maximum Size for uploading audio files

Is there a maximum size for uploading individual audio files?I have Starter-Plus. I’ve been “humming along” uploading individual oral histories in MP3 formats and then adding the metadata.I tried uploading one audio file over 150 MB. I received an error message during the Browser upload stage. It read “The file upload failed. Try again later.” The error message disappeared from the screen a few seconds later. The error appeared nearly immediately after I tried to upload the file. It was like the system didn’t even try.I logged out. Logged back in and still received the same message. I’ve waited an hour. Tried again. Still received the error message.Any ideas - what is happening? Is the file too large? Is there a way to fix this without breaking up the file into smaller chunks?I have a few more files that are just as large. So I’d like to try and find a solution quickly.Thanks!

Security tag question on Starter

Hi,On the tutorials I watched prior to beginning Starter, I thought I saw that folders as well as individual assets within the folders, could be set to private or public. When adding a folder and choosing the security tag, I see closed, open and public. I also see that individual assets within folders can be set the same way.Can someone help with the specific meanings of those? What exactly is open and closed? And do all the assets within a folder need to be set at the same security tag as the folder itself? Or is it possible to have a folder where some assets are public and some are not? I have assets that I want to be visible to users of the password-protected portal/website. I have assets that I do NOT want to be visible to users of the password-protected portal/website. I do NOT have assets I want visible to the unlimited public. How would I set the security tags of the folders and assets for those 3 types? Thank you!Kara
