If you have captured a web page using the conifer application and it won't display in Starter and gives a message of ‘format doesn’t have an associated renderer’

  • Find the original file you downloaded from Conifer and change the file extension to .zip in Windows Explorer or MacOS.
  • Extract the zip file to a local folder.
  • Change the extension of the unzipped file back to .warc
  • Upload into Starter again.

The native output of Conifer is not quite compatible with Starter and the method above should fix that.

That is super helpful! Thank you!

@Steve Crawford I encountered this same problem only with a WARC file I created using the Webrecorder extension for Chrome. I attempted the solution you advised, but it did not remedy the situation. Do you have any advice?

Hi Michael, let me do a bit of testing here with the Chrome extension and I will let you know

@Michael Friesen, it looks like the latest version (at least) of the webrecorder extension outputs in a wacz as opposed to warc format. Preservica now renders wacz so the first thing I would try is uploading the file directly without going through any of those steps
