Is there a file size limit to what can be viewed on Preservica Starter, both behind the scenes and on the public portal? I’m uploading large tiffs and getting an “unable to open object” message when I click to view either the preservation copies in Explorer or the access copies in the portal, even though the access copies are of course much smaller. Is it Preservica struggling with the large files for some reason (I thought it wasn’t supposed to), or is it more likely a browser or bandwidth issue? Thank you for any help!

Large images can cause problems with the renderer if you aren’t using IIIF. Rendering anything will have problems if the item is big enough that, on your connection, it takes >1 min to fetch the content (for example this can be a problem with big 3D assets).

Viewing the access copy should only be trying to render the access copy though - check that an access copy did actually get created and is actually smaller (not just through compression, the image dimensions matter too).

Thank you very much for your help! I’ve confirmed that the access copies are being created, and their file size is much, much smaller, but the image dimensions are actually the same. I don’t see a way to change that on Preservica, but perhaps I’m missing it?
