Error Message when ingesting files with bulk upload

I received the following error message “There was a problem with your ingest package. Browser upload failed, please try again.” A screenshot is attached.

  • I’m using the new template for bulk upload (DC.csv).
  • I’ve tried uploading the files four different times. In between, I logged off and back on.
  • There are only about 65 .PDFs with a size of 27.1MB.
  • I’m using a Chrome browser.
  • I’m uploading into a pre-existing folder on Preservica.
  • I’ve completed bulk uploads with the new template in the past with only a minor hiccup. With this new template, typically I’d receive an error message about not recognizing the folder with no option but to cancel the upload. So I would restart the upload. The second time it would upload the files. I clicked through when it said there was an issue with the metadata and folder. In the end it worked on the second attempt every time.

But I’m not sure what’s happening this time around? Any ideas for what I should try next?

Thanks!

Was the issue resolved? What was the solution?

The next day I tried it and the issue was resolved.  I didn’t try anything new or different. The bulk upload worked normally the next day.

I’ve had this happen too - for unknown reasons, the upload fails with this message, but even when I’ve tried it again immediately with no changes, it has worked.

I’m having this problem today. The original ingest was 75 GB, so I broke it up into two batches with two .csv files. These also kept failing, so I tried a small batch of ten .tif files totaling 3.72 GB with a corresponding .csv. Still no luck, and no idea what the problem could be. I have proofread my spreadsheets over and over and haven’t found anything I need to fix. Does anyone have ideas?

I just worked on this through a support ticket, and after the techs double-checked my csv and the browser logs, the answer I received was that this is a known issue that periodically happens, especially with larger ingests. I’ve had better luck with ingests under 1GB, and pretty poor luck with anything over 1GB this week. Kind of frustrating! The suggestion was to keep trying, possibly at different times of day, and with smaller batches.

As a side note, sometimes a problem with a csv could throw this problem too - like when I had a semi-colon in a field that wasn’t multi-value. I never would have found that myself, so thanks to the support team on that one, and a good thing to know!

Good to know, Holly! Thank you.

Hours later, some non-sequential images from one of the smaller batches have uploaded, but the metadata from the DC .csv is not attached. I am loath to break up this accession into 75 parts to ingest all of it so I will keep trying.

That’s frustrating and gets messy quickly - my failed ingests spin and spin for a long time but it looks like they don’t partially upload, just fail completely. If you haven’t, you might submit a support ticket with these details to see if there’s something else going on too.

Keep us updated!
