We’re one week into celebrating #ArchivesMonth and showcasing the great work being done to preserve amazing digital assets and collections.

As a part of this celebration, we’ve asked the community to show off some of its prized collections being future-proofed through digital preservation efforts.

Just a week in and we’ve already had quite a glimpse into the fascinating, inspiring, and touching digital preservation projects happening around the globe.

I wanted to highlight a few of my favorite posts from this week. In no particular order, here are a couple of #WhatDoYouPreserve posts that caught my eye, check the thread below to see a few.

I can’t wait to see what’s to come for posts during the rest of the month. Please keep them coming – every post counts to increase Preservica’s donation to the Society of American Archivists Foundation’s Mosaic Scholarship. As a reminder, you can view all of the details for #WhatDoYouPreserve here

Also, make sure to search the hashtag on your favorite social media channel to see what others have posted.

This collection includes voting results, pamphlets, maps, photos and more from Multnomah County Elections. It’s full of historically valuable records as well as awesome pictures like the one Paige included in her post.

Preservica’s own Aubrey preserves her family history and her photography with Preservica Starter.  Her photographs are great and will take you on a mini vacation.

This collection enables you to, “View websites and social media accounts used by the Obama administration. When President Obama left office, these sites were "frozen in time,"  on January 20, 2017.” How cool is that?

This emotional and sweet story that Susanna shared in her post I found to be extremely touching about being home sick at summer camp and receiving “Mommies Kisses” in the mail to remind her of home. Another example of how the things we want to keep forever come in all shapes and sizes. Susanna says it best in her post, “Her kisses are not something I am willing to lose.”

The Alexander Otto Fasser collection

Ian posted a series of tweets showcasing some of the Alexander Otto Fasser collection, which contains over 400 negatives and glass diapositives. It’s incredible that so many of these physical items in the collection were highly damaged by water. However, with conservation efforts, digital restoration, digitization, and digital preservation – this collection is viewable online. I encourage you to explore these powerful images.

This was a touching post. A great example of how the value of a digital asset can be at a personal level. Mike’s keeping this lovely memory and others alive with Active Digital Preservation for his personal collection of family photos.
