This feature has recently been updated so I suggest you watch this new training video which will guide you through the steps.
If you are still having problems then do let me know.
Thanks
Paul
It’s still not working. It’s the same video I watched in Preservica Academy.
This is the error message that pops up every time I try:
I copy-pasted the file name so there should’nt be any typo.
I don’t understand what is wrong.
Ok from the screenshot it would suggest that the problem is with the accents over the filename. Can you remove these and try again and let me know if this resolves the issue or not.
There is still something wrong. :(
I forgot to mention that the CVS file in the video is not the exact same that I download from Preservica. There are slight differences.
What differences? If you have changed the column names or order then the csv metadata file will not be accepted. Are there other files/metadata in the folder that don’t show any errors? Or is it just the 1 file?
I swear I didn’t change anything. Every files I tested with had these same problems.
I’ll send screenshots of the CVS files in a minute.
This is in the training video in Preservica AdademyThis is the model offered in Preservica Starter
In the video, the ‘’Types’’ are separated in columns but in the CVS model we can download in Preservica, the ‘’Types ‘’ are separated by commas. Does this changes anything?
Also there is no ‘’reference’’ colomn in the Preservica Starter one.
Can you try using the attached DC.csv template and let me know if you have the same problem.
Still the same errors. :(
Have you tried using the Tab option for upload rather than Comma?
I’m guessing it must be something to do with how your MS Excel is formatting the columns as when I download the DC.csv file (the one I attached) and upload it into my Starter system I don't encounter any problems.
When I try ‘’tab’’ it says that an unexpected error has occured.
Thank you Mr. Paul, I’ll keep trying!
Hi Sarah,
Looking at the second image (the CSV offered in Preservica Starter) it looks like the column names are all squished into the first column rather than spread out properly. Does your completed metadata sheet have this issue too? Sometimes CSVs don’t properly recognize their delimiter (ex. comma). It’s annoying when this happens, but if all your columns are combined in the first column, you can try the steps here to repair it with the Text to Columns wizard:
Hi! Thanks for the tip! It helped separate the colomns like they should be but there is still a problem with the ingest. At least it helps us moving towards a solution so thanks again!
You’re welcome! I’m also wondering about the first error message, about there not being metadata associated with the DC(4).CSV - I’m also very new to this, but when I upload a metadata CSV along with some files, it usually gives me an error message about there not being a metadata row for the CSV itself or for the folder that contains the CSV and files (aka assets). This bugs me, because I don’t really want to import the folder that holds the things anyway, but I have clicked on “I understand, continue the ingest” and just delete the unneeded folder after everything is done. Have you tried continuing with the ingest despite the error message and seeing what happens? If you have a few assets, do they import properly with metadata?
I tried continuing with the ingest but once it’s completed, not one metadata was uploaded with the asset.
I came to understand that my Excel separates the columns using the dot-comma ‘’ ; ‘’ insted of the simple comma ‘’ , ‘’. That may one of the problems.
If you have another hot tip on how to fix it i’ll take it!
Hi, when I searched how to do this online, I found this how-to for Windows settings:
Click on the Start menu.
Type control panel.
Click on Control Panel (Desktop app).
Select Clock, Language, and Region.
Click Region.
Select Additional settings in the pop-up window.
Change the List separator to comma.
Click Apply.
Hit OK.
Once done, try saving your CSV file and check if you will see comma instead of a semicolon.
If this doesn’t work, you could try Googling similar how-tos and see if another solution works. Good luck!
