We are tossing around the idea of not uploading TIFF files (to save space in our Preservica instance) and depending on the JPG as our archival copy. If Preservica is doing the digital preservation work on the JPG, is there a need for TIFF still? I’d be curious to hear what you think.

Hi Heather. My two cents would be to think about how you’d need to use the photos in the future. If it’s just about being able to open and see them, then the JPG with Preservica’s preservation actions should be just fine. If you need to be able to download the image and blow it up to reproduce at a very large scale, might be worth the space to ensure preservation of the TIFF.
Good luck! It’s a tough decision for sure.
